Patrick Neil Shindle

April 21, 1942 ~ August 9, 2018 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Tribute

Patrick Neil Shindle, age 76, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the Boise VA Medical Center.

Pat was born on April 21, 1942 in Sidney, Nebraska to parents, Fred and Winifred. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Claudette; brothers, Darrel and Sam; and step-daughter, Vicky. He is survived by his son, Darrin; step-daughters, Lori and Chris; brothers, Fred and Danny; sister, Susan; and grandsons, Breckan and Grayson.

He grew up in Kimberly, Idaho where he was involved in his high school marching band, and leader of the pep band. After graduating high school in 1960, he studied Art at Idaho State University and joined the Air Force in 1963, where he then served in the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Nampa 12th ward Elder's Quorum of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He was a loving father and grandfather. His fondest memories were attending his family’s  sporting events and spending time with his grandsons. He became very involved in his son’s coaching at Melba, Idaho where the girls’ basketball team lovingly nicknamed him, Papa Shin. In addition to sports, he enjoyed creating art and making gifts for others. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, playing cards, the outdoors, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1989, and lived with it for almost 30 years. Even as his symptoms progressed, he was still able to maintain his independence and never let it keep him from family events. He was a great example to family and friends on never giving up in the face of adversity. His family and friends will always remember him as a generous and supporting person who would do anything to help someone. We will miss his stubbornness and independent spirit. Pat’s family will treasure that he spent his last weeks living with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons.

Services are scheduled for Friday, August 17th at 11:00 am, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery: 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd; Boise, ID 83714. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early, as the procession begins precisely at 11:00 am.
