Michael "Shane" Jibben

April 23, 1954 ~ June 5, 2022 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Tribute

On June 5, 2022, Michael “Shane” Jibben, loving husband, father of two, and grandfather of one, passed away at the age of 68 after an all too quick and difficult battle with pancreatic cancer.

Shane was born on April 23, 1954 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Ernie and Hazel Jibben. While attending the University of South Dakota, he met the love of his life, Barbara (Manolis) Jibben.  They married in May of 1978, and their two children, Mathew and Katy, were born in Rapid City before moving to Seattle in 1985.  The family spent eight years there, where Shane and Barb built lifelong friendships and enjoyed being active in the community.  The family moved to Boise in 1993, a place Shane loved to call home.

Shane put his family and friends first, and took pride in taking care of others. He served as manager of North by Northwest Productions, a film and video productions agency, for 25 years. There, he was honored to lead his team not only professionally, but personally. Shane made lunch for his employees and clients nearly every day, a simple gesture that spoke volumes to his giving nature. He had a passion for music, played multiple instruments including guitar, banjo, and accordion–most self-taught–and was a collector of Beatles memorabilia. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, going on walks near the Boise River Greenbelt, playing music and studying music theory, taking on household projects with his wife, volunteering as the Maintenance Director on his HOA Board of Directors, and being an active member in the Rocky Mountain Highrailers model train club. Shane was known for his quick wit, his kind and compassionate spirit, and his love for family.

Shane was preceded in death by his son, Mathew, his parents, Ernie and Hazel, and his sister Lana.  He is survived by his wife Barb, his daughter Katy son-in-law Adam, his granddaughter Kennedy, his grand-dog and walking buddy Moose, and his six sisters and their many family members.
