Tribute

Lawrence A. (Larry) Farrington, a long-time resident of Andover, Massachusetts, died peacefully on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at home with family in his adoptive city of Meridian, Idaho. He was born on June 18, 1932 to the late Paul and Alice (Moran) Farrington in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ellen Mary (Costa) Farrington of Meridian, Idaho, three children, Susan Farrington of Meridian, Idaho, Stephen (Hallie) Farrington of Beachwood, Ohio, and Sheila (James) Davidson of Boise, Idaho, four wonderful grandchildren, brother Leo, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his older siblings Theresa Blandino, Paul, and William, and younger siblings John and Alice Miller.

Larry grew up on B Street in Lowell, Massachusetts. He attended Keith Academy in Lowell. Following graduation, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was posted as a chaplain’s assistant on base in Anchorage, Alaska during the Korean War era. After discharge, Larry took advantage of the G.I. Bill and pursued a degree in History and Government at St. Anselm College. Following graduation, he joined Eli Lilly Corporation in fertilizer sales. Larry eventually found his career in disability insurance sales and made his mark selling to professionals. He retired at age 66 after 31 years of active insurance sales.

Larry was a loving husband and father whose sole focus was his family. He loved to spend Sunday afternoons taking his kids on adventures in the woods or to the beach. In his later years, he and his wife traveled often in Europe, and more often to northeast Ohio to witness major events in the lives of his granchildren. Larry was a lifelong fan of Boston sports teams, with a special love for the Red Sox that was passed on from his father. He enjoyed spending time in nature as well as playing golf with his son and friends. He also enjoyed his involvement in  a local investment club. A man of strong faith, he was a long-time parishioner of St. Augustine Church and lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Larry transplanted to Idaho in 2015 to escape the northeast winters and enjoy the beauty of the Boise foothills. As an avid walker, he was well known by his new neighbors for his friendly demeanor. Larry’s tendency was to look for the good in all, and he was known to bring a positive attitude to most situations in life. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and neighbors.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Apostles Church (6300 N Meridian Rd., Meridian, Idaho) on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m, followed by a reception at the family home in Meridian (3712 North Legacy Common Ave).
