Jerry Dean Rosengrant

July 21, 1940 ~ December 1, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend from complications due to dementia on Friday December 1, 2017 at home.

Jerry was born July 21, 1940 at St Maries, Idaho to Dwight E Rosengrant and Viola M McLaughlin Rosengrant.  He graduated from Central Valley High School in 1958.  He met Bonnie Lee Bast during high school.  After high school, he joined the Coast Guard.   Upon fulfilling his requirements with the Coast Guard, he moved to Seattle, Washington and started what turned out to be his life long career in the auto parts business.

He married Bonnie Lee Bast on September 21, 1963 in Spokane, Washington.  They were blessed with three children.

Jerry and his family moved around the Northwest while Jerry was getting experienced in the auto parts business with a goal in mind of owning his own auto parts store.  In 1979 the family moved to Council, Idaho and Jerry started working for Quality Auto Parts.  In December of 1984, Jerry and Bonnie opened their own store, Jerry’s Auto Parts just north of Council.  In 2007, Jerry and Bonnie retired and sold their store to their son Eric and his wife Angie.

After retirement, Jerry built what is known to his family as the Garage-ma-hall.  He loved spending time out there.  He loved to rebuild cars.  Over the years, he rebuilt a ’57 Chevy pickup, a ’54 Chevy Bel-Air and a ’36 Chevy 4 door, of which he was very proud.  He and Bonnie would take these cars to several car shows over the years.  You can still see some of these vehicles in car shows today.

Jerry also loved woodworking and spent countless hours making projects for his family.

Jerry and Bonnie love the Council community and have been proud supporters in many ways.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Viola Rosengrant. His sister Bonnie Rosengrant Archer and his son, Dean Michael Rosengrant.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bonnie, his daughter Deedee (Ken) Schwartz, Middleton, Idaho and their children, Matt (Katie) Schwartz, Caldwell, Idaho: Cory (Ashley) Schwartz, Nampa, Idaho and Jared Schwartz of Kuna, Idaho: his son Eric (Angie) Rosengrant, Council, Idaho and their children Jordan Rosengrant, Boise, Idaho, Ryan Rosengrant, Boise, Idaho and Brett Rosengrant, Council, Idaho.  He is survived by two great-granddaughters, Emma Rose and Ashlyn Nicole Schwartz of Caldwell, his sister Marla (Allen) Reilly of Spokane, Washington, his brother Brent (Tricia) Rosengrant of Bend, Oregon, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

An Open House will be held in Jerry’s honor at the Council Fire House on Saturday, December 9 from 1-4 pm.

Contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to the Council Fire District, the Council Senior Center or a charity of your choice.

Rest in Peace Dad!  We will love you forever and ever!
