James "Jim" Eldon Givens

August 7, 1941 ~ November 2, 2023 (age 82) 82 Years Old

James "Jim" Eldon Givens, son of Robert Neal Givens and Mollie Smith Givens, was born August 7, 1941, in Claremore, Oklahoma, and peacefully entered rest on November 2, 2023, in Boise, Idaho.

He was the youngest of five children; his father passed away when he was two. His mother, brother, and three sisters raised a quiet, hard-working, reserved, thoughtful, and kind man. He attended schools in Claremore and moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma, to live with his sister and her family during his senior year of high school. After graduating from Ponca City High School, he worked in the auction and furniture business with his brother-in-law, Harry "Bud" Gifford. He received "that letter" from the draft board in 1961, suggesting time in foxholes. Preferring a different option, he chose to join the US Air Force. He did his basics and became a jet aircraft mechanic on B-52s. He was deployed to Mountain Home, Idaho, and spent all four years there, going TDY to Alaska and Guam, and both were happy assignments.

In 1962, he met and later married Eileen Klam in Boise, Idaho, and was blessed with a daughter, Karen Ann Givens, in 1966. Like many families, he worked with Eileen's parents, Jack and Eleanor Klam, at their ranch on weekends and spent 30 years working for the Boise School District. Upon retirement, he enjoyed relaxing, woodworking, and maintaining his home. He had a soft spot for his furry friends, Oreo and Charlie, treating them like the valuable family members they were.

Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Eileen, daughter Karen Givens, son-in-law Craig Simanton; and granddaughters, Grace and Elyse Simanton. He also leaves a niece, Melissa Jo (Richard) Larned, and family in Midland, Texas; three nephews, Robert (Pat) Givens and family in Enid, Oklahoma; and Harry (Andrea) Gifford and James Gifford and families in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mollie Givens; brother Robert Neal Givens Jr. and his wife Winifred, sisters Wanda Gifford and her husband Harry "Bud", Mary Josephine "Jo" Jones and her husband Herb, Bertha Bachand and her husband Val, and granddaughter Hannah Simanton.

There will be a private family service to celebrate Jim.
