Gordon Harold Bowie

To My Husband, Gordon Bowie, in Heaven —
Gordon Bowie, my everything, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021. After nearly 56 years
of marriage, I was so lucky to have him. He was the gentlest, most caring person I have ever
known, and incredibly smart. He taught me so much and he had quite a sense of humor!
During his lifetime, he was an avid photographer, both professionally and in his private life. For
36 years he worked as a professional staff photographer at the University of Chicago. His
photographic training includes the Ray Vogue School of Photography, Winona School of
Photography, the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and the Rochester Institute of Technology
among others. He took classes and workshops with professional photographers John Sexton,
Bruce Barnbaum, Howard Bond, Ray McSavaney, and Dan Anderson, to name a few. In
addition to teaching at Northern Indiana Arts Association and lecturing throughout the greater
Chicago area, he co-instructed field workshops for Ambient Light Photography. His work has
been on display at the Northern Indiana Arts Association, Town Gallery, and Barnes and Noble
in Munster, Indiana as well as Hyde Park Gallery, Calumet Photographic, and Brickton Gallery
in the Chicago area. His work has appeared in textbooks, catalogs, publications and is in
many private collections. In his private life, he enjoyed photographing the great outdoors —
especially the Tetons, since he loved mountains. I will miss him more and more with each
passing day. Rest in Peace, my love, until we meet again. Love you!
