Russell John Glass

August 20, 1939 ~ February 10, 2024 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Tribute

Our beloved Russell John Glass passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024, in his home in Nampa, Idaho surrounded by his wife, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He was 84 years old. He would have loved everyone together.

Russell was born to David Henry and Martha Marcella (Shaw) Glass on August 20, 1939
in East Freedom, Blair County, Pennsylvania. He was the third of six children.

Russell grew up on a farm and he naturally fell in love with farm life. He would often tell stories about going out into the woods to chop firewood. In his later years, he was always outside tending to his tomato plants or fruit trees. As a kid if he wasn’t on the farm, he would be playing football, and loved telling stories about his football days.

Russell graduated from South Fork Croyle High School in Pennsylvania in May 1958. In school he excelled at math and was always very proud of that.

Russell met Gloria (Richardson) in March of 1958 in Beaverdale, PA. They were at the Dairy Dell and Gloria saw him across the dance floor and thought he was very cute. They ended up sitting next to each other, and from that night on they were inseparable. After graduation he set off to California where he asked Gloria to join him. Shortly after arriving in California Russell and Gloria were married at 9:00 AM on November 21, 1959.

He never went a day without telling his beautiful wife that he loved her. She was his person.
They had five beautiful children together and they raised them in their home in Norco, CA, where he started a sheet metal fabrication business and ran it for 38 years. Russell did all the dirty work while his wife Gloria served as the brains of the company. He was an expert die-maker for sheet metal.

Russell was always fixing things with his tools. He loved his tools and would often be found looking through them. If anyone needed some handy work done, he was always willing to help.

Russell had a very happy life. He loved to go on many adventures and camping trips with his children when they were young, and he continued that tradition with his grandkids. When their kids were grown, Russell and Gloria enjoyed trips to Vegas or going on cruise ships. They just loved to travel and made many trips back home to Pennsylvania to visit family.

When Russell retired, he and Gloria moved to Idaho to spend their time with family. They spent many happy years loving on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of the families’ fondest memories involve playing the family card game at every opportunity. If you ask any family member, Russell was always the quiet one, but he knew how to make people laugh and was always loving to those around him. He had the sweetest soul and just loved his family very much.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Glass, their five children: Russell Glass, Susan Glass (Ricky Childers), Brian Glass (Lorra Glass), Juli Elliott (John Elliott) and Amy Glass. Their eleven grandchildren: Jessica Glass, Britnie Shofner (Jason Shofner), Christopher Harmon, Holly Johnson (Daniel Johnson), Kristen Smith (Josh Smith), Jennifer Phelps (Andy Phelps), Alyssa Gray (Shawn Gray), Nicholas Elliott, Chloe Glass, Sydney Elliott, and Lillie Glass. Sixteen great grandchildren (14 handsome boys and 2 beautiful girls). Brother Charlie Glass (Marjorie Glass) and Sister Emogene Sorese. Sister-in-laws Bonnie Glass, and Edna Glass; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents David Henry and Martha (Shaw) Glass; brothers Dave Glass, Henry Glass; and sister Marcia Daniel.

We will be having a celebration of life for Russell on Saturday, March 23, 2024.
