Cody Ray Mitchell

January 12, 1977 ~ February 25, 2024 (age 47) 47 Years Old

Tribute

Cody Ray Mitchell, 47, of Kuna, Idaho, left us unexpectedly on February 25, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.  Cody was born on January 12, 1977 in Riverside, California. His parents were Cathy and Rodney (Rocky) Mitchell.

Although born in California, Cody was an Idaho guy. He graduated from Kuna High School and never strayed far. In 1998, Cody met the love of his life, Paige Wessels, and they were married in 2001. Even after twenty-five years together, they still held hands and were each other’s best friend. They had two sons, Jeg and Grayson. Jeg passed away shortly after birth. Grayson was a gift given to them on November 28, 2011.

Cody was a large man with a booming voice, enormous smile, and a heart of gold.  Being larger than life, he could light up any room he entered. He was a gentle giant willing to be a dear friend to all, and willing to help anyone and everyone – always with that smile of his. His generosity and spirit are exemplified by the choice he made to be an organ donor. Even after his passing his giving continued as his heart and other organs along with his tissue will have saved lives and perhaps touch as many as 200 people.

Cody worked in the air filtration industry for 15 years. The last nine of those years were spent at Air Filter Superstore. Cody was the second employee hired there. He loved his job, his coworkers, and was instrumental in the growth and success of that young business. One customer posted that even on the telephone, one could hear Cody’s smile. Cody also owned and operated his own small business. He designed and generated vinyl signs for business vehicles and personal projects like signage. His company’s name was Jeg Gray Designs – named after his two precious sons.

When not working, Cody was a man of many, varied interests. He was a little competitive and approached any activity intending to always do his very best. He loved hunting and fishing with his Uncle Glenn and cousins in Quartzberg, and spent a lot of time there helping with projects and snowmobiling.  Around the camp fire at night, he enjoyed competitions with his cousins identifying different genres of music and artists new and old. He liked to bowl, and loved cooking, especially perfecting his approach to smoking meats. Cody, Paige, Grayson, Brenda, and Auntie Sherri spent many wonderful holidays together with Cody cooking and making some of his amazing guacamole. He was a tremendous asset when the family participated in Escape Rooms, and he, Paige, and Grayson were avid Pokémon enthusiasts spending time on weekends at community events.

Cody is survived by his “little family”, Paige, Grayson and his mother-in-law, Brenda Wessels, as well as his brother, Monte, and nephew, Austin.  He has many other relatives and friends – too many to try to call out individually.

Cody was preceded in death by his son, Jeg, his parents, Cathy and Rocky, and his father-in-law, Alan Wessels.  Again, too many others to try to list, but important all the same.

Cody, the kindhearted man who was larger than life with a smile that could light up a room, will be missed by his family and all that had the fortune to cross his path.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the Air Filtration Superstore, 3825 E. Lanark St., Suite 100, Meridian, ID 83642
